In response to a growing demand for more sustainable alternatives to single-use hotel guest toiletries packaged in plastic, Hotel Emporium, a direct manufacturer of hotel amenities, developed a series of bath products packaged in compostable, plastic-free containers called Eco Pod.
They designed the 2-piece pods to hold about 1-2 doses worth of powdered shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
By taking out the water from their bath products’ formulations, Hotel Emporium also reduces weight and size, lowering the ecological footprint further by requiring less fuel to distribute the product.
The Eco Pods are composed of 60% bamboo fiber, 30% sugarcane, and 10% wood fiber and make use of soy-based ink, making them easily compostable.
EcoPods come at a time when large hotels chains, such as Disneyland Resorts, InterContinential Group, and Marriot, have phased out or have plans to eliminate single-use guest toiletries packaged in plastic bottles, and as some jurisdictions, such as California, have banned the amenities from hotel rooms within the state.
