Realme 5s Review — Worthy upgrade to realme 5?

We have been testing the realme 5s (4GB+128GB) for some time now and in this review, let us find out if the realme 5s is ‘real-ly’ an upgrade to the realme 5.
realme has already confirmed Android 10 update for realme 5 in Q2 2020, and we can expect a similar timeline for the realme 5s too.
It also has ‘realme Lab’ which brings Dark Mode to the realme 5s and the implementation is quite good.
realme 5s achieved FoneArena One Charge rating of 19 hours and 45 minutes, which is almost same as the realme 5.
But, in our opinion, if you are already using a realme 5, you can skip the realme 5s, and wait for the successor (realme 6?)

Reliance Jio starts rolling out VoWiFi service in Delhi and Chennai

Recently, Airtel started testing WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) in several cities in India and later officially launched the service. Following Airtel’s launch, Reliance Jio has now started rolling out WiFi Calling facility in Chennai and Delhi-NCR. Several users in Chennai have reported that they are seeing ‘Jio WiFi’ icon or a similar WiFi Calling icon on their smartphones. Although Airtel WiFi Calling worked with all Wi-Fi networks during the testing phase, it is now restricted to Airtel Broadband users. Also, some users have reported that Jio VoWiFi is working with Airtel mobile hotspot too.

OPPO Reno3 5G with MediaTek Dimensity 1000 and Reno3 Pro 5G with Snapdragon 765G, quad rear cameras to be announced on Dec 26

Update 2: OPPO Reno3 5G landing page has revealed that the Reno3 will be powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 1000 compared to Snapdragon 765G SoC in the Reno3 Pro 5G. Update: OPPO has confirmed that the Reno3 and Reno3 Pro smartphones will be introduced at an event in China on December 26th. Reno3 Pro has a punch-hole screen on the left side, while the Reno3 features a water-drop notch screen with a slightly bigger bottom bezel. Reno 3 Pro 5G will be powered by Snapdragon 765G pack a 4025mAh battery, weigh 180 grams and 7.7mm slim body. We should know more details about the OPPO Reno 3 in the coming weeks.

Samsung Galaxy A71 with 6.7-inch AMOLED display, quad rear cameras, in-screen front camera surfaces

Recently, renders of Samsung Galaxy A51 with Super AMOLED display, quad-rear cameras, in-screen cameras surfaced. Similarly, now renders of another Galaxy phone in the A series – Galaxy A71 has surfaced, revealing key details of the smartphone including a punch-hole display, quad-rear cameras, and more. According to the renders, the design of the Galaxy A71 is almost similar to the Galaxy A51 that surfaced recently, but the bezels are not as narrow as the A51. Regarding the specifications, the Galaxy A71 is said to sport a larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, but the resolution is not known yet. The A71 is also said to sport a centered in-screen front camera, similar to Galaxy Note 10/Note10+.

Sony Xperia 1 II with 6.5-inch 4K OLED 21:9 CinemaWide display, Snapdragon 865, 5G, Triple rear cameras with ZEISS optics announced

Sony just announced Xperia 1 II (Pronounced Mark 2), the company’s latest flagship smartphone and its first 5G smartphone at an online event. It packs the same 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR display offering bright colors with BRAVIA X1 for mobile as the predecessor, but is powered by Snapdragon 865 with 8GB of RAM and has support for sub-6GHz 5G. It packs triple rear cameras that includes 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.7 aperture, OIS, 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 12-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS for 3x loss-less zoom, and there is also a 3D iToF (indirect Time-of-Flight) sensor. The Cinema Pro, powered by CineAlta offers 21:9 Movie recording in 4K HDR that promises best results — even in backlit scenes or low light. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the front and the back, side-mounted fingerprint sensor and packs a 4,000mAh battery.

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a series get Astrophotography with Google Camera v7.2 update

Google had confirmed earlier that Pixel 3 series would get Astrophotography, that was announced along with Pixel 4. The update is now coming out for Pixel devices via Google Camera v7.2 through the play store, up from the Google Camera v6.3. Astrophotography is only available to Pixel 3 and 3a series and not the older devices. Although first gen Pixel and Pixel 2 series will not officially get Astrophotography capabilites, a user named cstark27 on XDA developers has created a mod apk file of Google Camera to unofficial enable this feature. Although results will clearly not be the same as the new Pixel devices.

Update: December 27, 2019 — realme China product director Wang Wei Derek has posted a new photo of the phone that confirms side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Earlier: After teasers, realme today confirmed that it will introduce the realme X50 5G will be introduced at an event in China on January 7th. The phone will come with support for 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. The phone will feature 8mm 410mm³ diameter large liquid-cooled copper tube for heat dissipation 3.0 offering five-dimensional heat dissipation that covers all the heat sources 100%. It will feature enhanced VOOC flash charge 4.0, so that the phone is charged from 0 to 70% in 30 minutes.

Sony confirms Android 10 update for range of Xperia smartphones, roll out begins in December starting from Xperia 1 and Xperia 5

Sony Mobile has officially confirmed the list of its smartphones that will get Android 10 update. This includes its flagship smartphones Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, which will get the update next month. Xperia 10, XZ2, and XZ3 will get the update in early 2020. Sadly, Xperia XZ, XZ1 and Xperia XA2 series are not in the list. As usual Sony said that software roll outs are a phased process, and timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator.

China smartphone shipments reach 98.9 million units, down 3.6% YoY in Q3 2019: IDC

Smartphone shipments in China appear to be improving with a 3.9% decline YoY, up from the 6% decline YoY in Q2 2019, thanks due to HUAWEI’s strong domestic sales. The top 5 manufacturers in China for Q3 2019 were HUAWEI, Vivo, OPPO, Xiaomi and Apple with the total smartphone shipments counting to 98.9 million units. HUAWEI claimed the top spot with a record 42% market share in the Chinese market. Vivo sold about 18.1 million units, having strong sales in the US$150-200 and US$200-400 segments with its Y and Z series. OPPO smartphone shipments declined by 21.7% in Q3 2019 with the Reno series and A series being its main volume sales.
