Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite with Snapdragon 855 launching in India on Flipkart on January 23

Update: Flipkart has now confirmed that S10 Lite will be launched in India on January 23rd.
Earlier:Samsung introduced the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note10 Lite smartphones yesterday, and the phones will be showcased at the CES 2020 next week.
Now Flipkart has confirmed that it will launch the Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone in India soon.
The S10 Lite is powered by Snapdragon 855, while the Note10 Lite sticks to old Exynos 9810 SoC, but it has a 3.5mm audio jack, which the S10 Lite lacks.
The Galaxy S10 Lite comes in Prism White, Prism Black and Prism Blue while Galaxy Note10 Lite comes in Aura Glow, Aura Black and Aura Red.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Android 10 update starts rolling out

Xiaomi announced the Mi A2 under the Android One program back in July 2018. The smartphone was launched running Android 8.1 (Oreo), and the company updated it to Android 9.0 (Pie) in December 2018. Android One devices from other brands such as HMD and Motorola have already received Android 10 update, as per the Android One policy, the Mi A2 is eligible to receive Android 10 update.

Android location access to become safer and more transparent with Android 11

With the launch of the Android 11 Developer Preview for Pixel devices, Google is showing its commitment towards making user location data more safe and transparent to users. One of the main changes that users will see with Android 11 is the ability to share location access to an app just that one time. Before that, users could only either turn location access on or off. Soon with Android 11, Google is giving users the ability to only give the app their location data “Only this time”. To combat this, Google will soon update its Google Play policy that will require developers to get approval from Google if they want to access background location data for their app.

Motorola One Power stable Android 10 update starts rolling out

Motorola launched its Android One based Motorola One Power smartphone last year and it launched with Android 8.0 Oreo and was later updated to Android 9.0 Pie. As promised earlier, Motorola has now started to roll out Android 10 update to the One Power smartphone. The company has now started rolling out Android 10 update to the One Power with a staged approach. The release of the stable update comes after the company opened a closed beta program for Android 10 last month. Initially, only a few users will get the stable update and Motorola says that all devices will receive the update by January 10, 2020.

Gmail for iOS now lets users add attachments from Apple’s Files app

As Apple makes iOS and iPadOS more user-friendly with regard to sharing documents and files via third party applications, Gmail for iOS has finally integrated the option to add attachments in mails from Apple’s Files app from Gmail itself. With the new update, Gmail users on both iOS and iPadOS will be able to directly add attachments from the Files app in iOS. Earlier, if users needed to share documents or files that were stored locally in their Apple device, they would need to navigate via the Files app and then share from there. The second row will now show Attachments with a file icon that takes the user directly to the native Apple Files picker. The feature will be available by default for all Gmail for iOS app users with both the rapid release domains and the scheduled release domains getting the update from February 12, 2020.

Apple supplier Salcomp buys defunct Nokia Chennai Plant, to invest $300 million in five years

It has been over 5 years since Nokia’s Sriperumbudur plant shut down production due to a tax dispute. Now, Finnish based firm Salcomp, manufacturer of chargers/adapters for mobile phones and other electronics for companies like Apple, has bought the defunct plant for about Rs. Salcomp already operates two units in the Sriperumbudur SEZ zone having close to 7000 employees with the new factory said to add over 10000 jobs. Apple’s components is about 60% in the 1.1 million sq ft plant — and the balance would be for others including Foxconn, Xiaomi, Vivo and OPPO, according to ET report. These decisions add to the larger strategy of Apple in expanding production in India for the local and global markets.
