Sony Xperia 1 II with 6.5-inch 4K OLED 21:9 CinemaWide display, Snapdragon 865, 5G, Triple rear cameras with ZEISS optics announced

Sony just announced Xperia 1 II (Pronounced Mark 2), the company’s latest flagship smartphone and its first 5G smartphone at an online event.
It packs the same 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR display offering bright colors with BRAVIA X1 for mobile as the predecessor, but is powered by Snapdragon 865 with 8GB of RAM and has support for sub-6GHz 5G.
It packs triple rear cameras that includes 12-megapixel main camera with f/1.7 aperture, OIS, 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 12-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS for 3x loss-less zoom, and there is also a 3D iToF (indirect Time-of-Flight) sensor.
The Cinema Pro, powered by CineAlta offers 21:9 Movie recording in 4K HDR that promises best results — even in backlit scenes or low light.
It has Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the front and the back, side-mounted fingerprint sensor and packs a 4,000mAh battery.

Sony confirms Android 10 update for range of Xperia smartphones, roll out begins in December starting from Xperia 1 and Xperia 5

Sony Mobile has officially confirmed the list of its smartphones that will get Android 10 update. This includes its flagship smartphones Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, which will get the update next month. Xperia 10, XZ2, and XZ3 will get the update in early 2020. Sadly, Xperia XZ, XZ1 and Xperia XA2 series are not in the list. As usual Sony said that software roll outs are a phased process, and timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator.

China smartphone shipments reach 98.9 million units, down 3.6% YoY in Q3 2019: IDC

Smartphone shipments in China appear to be improving with a 3.9% decline YoY, up from the 6% decline YoY in Q2 2019, thanks due to HUAWEI’s strong domestic sales. The top 5 manufacturers in China for Q3 2019 were HUAWEI, Vivo, OPPO, Xiaomi and Apple with the total smartphone shipments counting to 98.9 million units. HUAWEI claimed the top spot with a record 42% market share in the Chinese market. Vivo sold about 18.1 million units, having strong sales in the US$150-200 and US$200-400 segments with its Y and Z series. OPPO smartphone shipments declined by 21.7% in Q3 2019 with the Reno series and A series being its main volume sales.

Reliance Jio starts rolling out VoWiFi service in Delhi and Chennai

Recently, Airtel started testing WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) in several cities in India and later officially launched the service. Following Airtel’s launch, Reliance Jio has now started rolling out WiFi Calling facility in Chennai and Delhi-NCR. Several users in Chennai have reported that they are seeing ‘Jio WiFi’ icon or a similar WiFi Calling icon on their smartphones.
