Responding to COVID-19’s aggressive spread has posed great challenges for many city politicians and service providers.
Normally, in homeless services, a low unsheltered rate is seen as a good thing.
Reducing the burden on homeless services systems has been a central motivation behind the many eviction moratoria recently put in place across the country.
But the varying responses of public and private homeless service providers to the COVID-19 crisis is something we’ll have to evaluate more closely, someday.
There has plainly been inadequate attention given to the supply needs of homeless services organizations.
